| Description: | Both sides natural Ivory color in Staunton like design. One side is marked with red rings on the bases of all 16 pieces. All pieces are made of sections of bone and marked with black rings on the underside around the area where the "stem" screws into the base. Excellent condition. Observations: Each side has three bishops (instead of two), one of which is a little shorted and is used for pawn. Seems to be by design (or an error of the carver). Likely late 1800 or early 1900 not later than 1930. Sale. |
