| Description: | Very rare Ivory and Ebony Chess set. Stunning Selenus set in mint condition (have not observed any flaw). Light pieces made of Ivory (pronounced Shreger lines); Ebony for the the dark. Superb carving and finish. Each piece is made in multiple sections that screw together. Likely late 1700 - early 1800. This great condition may be that the pieces were safely stored, the latest in a fantastic vintage box labeled "Avorio Marchiano, Genova (Italia)". The box is made of some exotic wood with inlay (ivory?) of a a boy riding a whale (?). It also has accent border, overall in fair condition. Sale. |
