Description: Reproduction of the Cy Endfield Fischer Spassky Commemorative Chess Set. Made in 2022 to commemorate 50 years since the legendary match. The pieces are Nickel Silver for one side and 4K gold plated for the other and are housed in a black silk-lined, red leather, clam shell case which also contains the silver and black folding chessboard. These sets were created to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the historic 1972 World Championship match between then Champion Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union and home-grown Robert James Fischer. This chess set, allows one to interlock all the chess pieces into a tube for easy storage. The pawns, with smaller diameter, construct the inner layer and the major pieces interlock and create an outer layer of the tube. This is a reproduction of the official FIDE commemorative chess set for the legendary 1972 chess battle between the American chess genius Bobby Fischer and the Russian protege Boris Spassky. Some alterations were made to the original set but, overall, it is a true reproduction, a must for the chess collector. Excellent, new condition.
Cyril (Cy) Endfield was a film director, magician and inventor. Among his many achievements is this unique chess set which he patented in 1974 in the US (3,806,128).
