This set consists of two very thick card boards, holding a complete set of 16 lithographed thick cardboard game piece tokens. One set printed in red the other in black. They are about 1/8th of an inch thick and are pushed out to play and re-inserted in the holder cards. One side of each token features images of classic chess pieces, and the other simply has "SAPOLIO" printed in red or black, for use as checkers. This set was issued "For the grocery trade only" and noted that additional sets could be sent to any address for 10 cents in postage stamps. Comes with its original chess boards with significant advertising and gems notes. Each card measures 6" x 6" and each token is one inch in diameter. The board folds four ways into 6" x 6". A very nice and rare set from over a century ago.
