Notice the unusually large bases ("add on"; not carved with the piece), assume done to "make it bigger" as well as provide room for heavier weights without sacrificing with a much larger diameter bases. Seen many German-Italian-Swiss-Austrian carved sets that are of the same style carving, of "Val Gardena" makers - with a very flat base then added base (most Anri are actually such).
This set was purchased from the family of an American veteran who brought it after WWII. Was in storage all these years. Excellent condition. A period wooden Board / Folding box approx. 21" included; in great condition. Little aging visible on this amazing mid century set (except loss of stretches of the rubber band which holds the pieces in the box. Sold. |
