Description: This is an original etching of two men playing chess, titled "Check". Pierce and Bates were a married couple who did art wood carvings to print limited etchings. K.C. Pearce & Bob Bates are from Dillsburg, PA used actual 17th century Japanese style wood block printing techniques. This is #10 of only 50 that were printed from the woodblock carving. Some of their work hangs in The Modern Museum of Art and also The Microsoft Art Gallery. This one was made most likely in the 1940's or 1950's. It's done with X's and lines. A lot of their etchings were limited to 100 to 500. The actual printed part measures 6" X 3 3/4". Including frame, 12" X 11".
