| Description: | Limited edition Gaudi chess set, one of the best and largest made. Stunning beauty. Modeled after genius Gaudi architectural theme present in Barcelona. Themes from Barcelona building tops, chimneys and ventilations of the Palacio, Casa Mila (La Pedrera), Casa Vicens, Parque Guell, La Sagrada Familia church, Casa Batilio, his most recognized work the Salamander (Lizard) and others, known as "Trencadis". Chess Pieces nest in special compartments inside a box, 13" x 13". Box bottom side is the chess board, also decorated accordingly. Looks that the set is made of Ceramic-Resin and hand painted. The box is made of wood. Assume the board too and which also serves as the bottom of the box. There is a custom insert in the box where the pieces are nesting - looks like made of some molded plastic covered with fuzzy-soft-felt material for elegance and protection of the pieces. The cover/door is made of transparent Plexiglas that slides into a groove in the frame and has a wooden handle on one side that, when closed, blends seamlessly into the box frame. This way the set can be displayed directly. My understanding is that the licensed artist only created a few sets and discontinued production several years ago. Excellent condition. |
