| Description: | Vintage chess set 1960s, likely made of water buffalo (Ox) Horn and Bone. Beautifully carved. The wooden board 12" x 12" with 1.25" x 1.25" squares is made of inlaid squares of wood and Bone (?) and folds into a box to hold the chess pieces. The light squares are further hand engraved with characters from the Chinese-oriental zodiac-calendar including the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. Four additional figures and included to complete the sixteen. Likely from China, Vietnam, Cambodia or another country in the far east region. 2019. Sold. |
